We are the Leading Specialists in Vasectomy Reversal in Ottawa and Eastern Ontario
Give yourself the best chance of success with over twenty years of experience and two Urologists specially trained in Men’s Health.
Why should I choose micro-surgery for
my vasectomy reversal?
Dr. Witherspoon and Dr. Roberts have undergone specific sub-specialty training to perform vasectomy reversals using a surgical microscope. In addition to the typical 5-year residency program all general urologists undergo, our surgeons have spent another 2 years perfecting this technically difficult procedure.
Current Canadian Urology Association guidelines recommend that only surgeons trained in microscopic vasectomy reversals should offer this surgery. Without an operating microscope, your success rates will be affected.
Our surgical technique
Our surgeons are capable of performing the most advanced and current techniques for vasectomy reversal. These include the mini-incision vasectomy reversal and the micro-dot multi-layer vasectomy reversal.
Do I require general anesthetic for this procedure?
Given the extremely delicate nature of placing microscopic sutures (stitches) to reverse the vasectomy, patients are typically placed under general anesthetic for this procedure. This ensures you are comfortable and pain free during the procedure, and optimizes the surgeo’s ability to perform the surgery.
How long is the recovery?
Vasectomy reversal is a day surgery (you can go home the same day as surgery). You will feel well enough to return to a desk job within 7-10 days and a more physical job within 14-21 days.
When will I know if the procedure worked?
We will perform a semen analysis 3 months after the procedure. In some patients a return of sperm can take longer (6-12 months).
We recommend all patients considering a vasectomy reversal ask their treating surgeon if the procedure it to be performed microscopically.
In patients undergoing vasectomy reversal, 20-30% may ultimately need an even more technically demanding procedure to reverse the vasectomy successfully, termed a vasoepididymostomy (VE). General urologists or other physicians offering vasectomy reversals are not trained to perform this procedure, and most do not have access to an operating microscope to perform this type of connection. Our team is experienced in this type of connection, optimizing your chances of success.
